The delegation are EU experts whose primary aim is to render support and assistance to the country’s economic development. The experts had already been in contact with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) of which YEA is a subsidiary agency and had also visited 11 subvented agencies under the Ministry.
The EU experts announced that the EU had an estimated budget of €400,000 to support the employment sector in the country and as such needed the inputs of the agency to help tailor the funds to get the youth of the country into decent employment.
The CEO of the Agency, Justin Kodua Frimpong expressed gratitude for the concerns showed by the team towards the unemployment situation of the youth and the commitment of the EU to assist the agency and the country at large.
He stated that there is lack of accurate data of the job market on potential job seekers so such a collaboration between the agency and the EU will go a long way to help in that direction.
He also reiterated the establishment of Job Centres nationwide to help mitigate the pressure on the agency in terms of skills training and job creation. He noted that the job centres will serve as administrative centres in the regions to receive concerns of potential job seekers and as well serve as a skills training Centre for the youth of the country.
Mr. Frimpong again appealed to the EU experts to support the agency to set up a website for the youth to upload their resume and as well link the platform to other employable sectors to hook up with job seekers.
In her contribution at the roundtable discussion, the Deputy CEO of the Agency in charge of Finance and Administration, Madam Lydia Atiemo, also affirmed to the development of the job creation and counseling centers to help meet the exact demands of the youth so that trainings would be geared towards their requirements.
